ABOUT ME

I am originally from Mexico City, where I studied a BA in International Relations at the UNAM, and I have a PhD in Political Science from the University of Minnesota.

My research sits at the intersection of international relations and comparative politics. I study how international human rights norms, domestic legal institutions, and societal actors interact to shape accountability, state power, and the rule of law in Latin America. By examining courts, prosecutors, NGOs, and criminal justice reform, my work explains when international legal commitments become meaningful in practice, when they fail, and when legal institutions are repurposed in struggles over democratic governance.
